Family Field Trips to ZooMiami
2021 Family Field Trips to Zoo Miami presented by:
In the Spring of 2018, Sofia's Hope launched this program whereby on a bi-annual basis we invite patients and their families to an all expense paid day at Zoo Miami. Transportation to and from the hospitals is provided courtesy of Miami Tour Company, Lunch for all is also included. Activities vary but have included a one-hour guided walking tour of Africa and the Florida Everglades, rides on the Carousel, feeding the giraffes, tram tour of the zoo, and "Creature Feature" presentation. After lunch families are free to enjoy the zoo on their own, with many spending time at the water park. At the end of the day, each patient and their siblings receive an adopt-an-animal gift package as their souvenir.
Due to COVID our Fall Field Trip to Zoo Miami has been postponed and instead we invited families with children facing a childhood cancer diagnosis to join us via Zoom on on Saturday, December 12th at 10:00 AM for a free 30-minute interactive program, where they learned about the Florida Panther, the silent predator that almost went extinct and is slowly making a comeback through conservation efforts.
On Thursday, January 28th at 3:30pm we hosted almost twenty-five patients and their parents for another virtual visit to the zoo where they learned all about Giraffes. After their time with the Zoo Guides, participants, led by our partners at ClayWorld made their own unique clay giraffe.
We will be scheduling more visits in the coming months. If you want to learn more about these visits, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
